Belief, reconstruction and honest labels
Some things here are archaeological: the agora's plan, the church remains near the harbour, the street levels. Some are textual: the account in Acts of Paul teaching daily in a hall belonging to Tyrannus. Some are tradition: the association of Luke with a particular monument, and the identification of the hilltop house.
We mark which is which as we go. Pilgrims are not served by being told that a reconstruction is a relic, and the day loses nothing by being accurate about what is known.
Arriving as a pilgrim
Ephesus receives pilgrims and tourists on the same paths. Part of a good pilgrimage day is choosing when to be with the crowd and when to step aside from it.

The association is traditional. The structure itself is a Roman monument later given a Christian identification; we present the evidence rather than the legend alone.
