Holding tradition carefully
The four locations of this day rest on different footings. The basilica is a documented sixth-century building over a tomb venerated earlier. The sleepers' cemetery is archaeologically real and the story attached to it is legend, shared by Christian and Islamic tradition. The hilltop house is a modern shrine grown from a nineteenth-century identification.
Naming those differences is not scepticism; it is respect. A pilgrimage that knows what it is standing on is stronger than one that does not.
Space to stop
Ephesus is busy, but the day can be arranged around its quieter hours and its quieter corners. That is a planning decision, not luck.
