PRIVATE CLASSIC TURKEY JOURNEY
Private Istanbul, Ephesus, Pamukkale & Cappadocia Tour — 8 Days
Eight days as an Istanbul round trip across the three landscapes most travellers come to Turkey for: the imperial city on the Bosphorus, the excavated coast around Ephesus with the travertines of Pamukkale inland, and the carved volcanic country of Cappadocia — privately throughout.

What this journey is
Turkey is large, and the three regions on this route are far apart. Rather than pretend otherwise, the journey uses three recommended domestic air sectors to move between them, which turns what would be several long driving days into flying time measured in hours and leaves the days themselves for the places. Those flights are necessary logistics, but they are quoted and ticketed separately and are never inside the tour price.
Everything on the ground is private: your booking party alone, never more than fourteen guests, with a licensed guide and a vehicle at your disposal in each region. Istanbul gets two full days, the Ephesus region two, and Cappadocia two, with the arrival and departure days kept deliberately light.
Evidence, interpretation and tradition
Documented archaeology and architecture: Ephesus and Hierapolis are long-running excavations, and Istanbul's major monuments are standing, dated buildings with published histories. What is said about them stays inside that record.
Interpretation: the dating and purpose of the Cappadocian underground settlements, and the phases of their use, are argued from limited evidence. Popular figures for how many people they held are not treated here as established fact.
Tradition: the devotional stories attached to the rock-cut chapels of Cappadocia and to individual Istanbul monuments are told as tradition, clearly separated from what excavation and documents actually show.
Day by day
Day 1 · Arrival in Istanbul
You are met on arrival and transferred privately to your Istanbul hotel. The rest of the day is free, and your guide confirms the plan for the week, including the three recommended domestic air sectors that make the route work.
Overnight in Istanbul · Dinner at the hotel
Day 2 · Historic Istanbul
A full guided day on the historic peninsula. The Hippodrome and the quarter around it are used to read the Byzantine city underneath the Ottoman one, and Hagia Sophia is explained as a sixth-century church that became a mosque, then a museum, and is again in religious use.
Interior access, prayer times and any substitution are confirmed in writing in your proposal rather than promised on this page.
Overnight in Istanbul · Breakfast and dinner
Day 3 · The Bosphorus city, then south to Kusadasi
The morning stays with the imperial city: the Bosphorus that made it, the waterfront palaces and the shifting boundary between Europe and Asia that shaped how the capital was governed and supplied.
In the afternoon the journey moves to Izmir on a recommended domestic flight and continues by private vehicle to Kusadasi. The air sector is necessary itinerary logistics, but it is not included in the tour price: it is quoted, ticketed and confirmed in writing separately.
Overnight in Kusadasi · Breakfast and dinner
Day 4 · Pamukkale and Hierapolis
A day inland to the travertine terraces of Pamukkale, built by calcium-rich springs on the hillside, and to Hierapolis above them — a Roman and later Byzantine city with its theatre, colonnaded street and vast necropolis. The route returns to Kusadasi in the evening.
Overnight in Kusadasi · Breakfast and dinner
Day 5 · Ephesus, Selcuk, then east to Cappadocia
The morning walks the excavated city of Ephesus along the official route of the day, taking in Curetes Street, the Library of Celsus facade and the Great Theatre, with the site of the Temple of Artemis and the Ephesus Museum in Selcuk added as time allows.
Later the journey flies from Izmir to Kayseri or Nevsehir on a recommended domestic sector and transfers by private vehicle to your Cappadocia hotel. As on day 3, that flight is not included in the tour price and is ticketed and confirmed separately.
Overnight in Cappadocia · Breakfast and dinner
Day 6 · Northern Cappadocia
A full day in the northern landscape: the rock-cut chapels of the Goreme valley with their painted interiors, the volcanic cones and eroded valleys around them, and the pottery workshops of Avanos on the Kizilirmak, where the local clay has been worked for a very long time.
The geology, the monastic settlement and the modern village life are explained as three separate stories that happen to share one valley system.
Overnight in Cappadocia · Breakfast and dinner
Day 7 · Southern Cappadocia, then back to Istanbul
The southern day goes underground, into one of the carved multi-level settlements cut into the soft rock, and then through the valley and village landscape around it, where rock-cut dwellings and later houses sit in the same slope.
In the late afternoon the journey returns to Istanbul on a recommended domestic flight, again quoted and ticketed separately, and transfers privately to your hotel.
Which underground settlement is visited depends on current official access on the day; the exact site is confirmed in writing before your journey is reserved.
Overnight in Istanbul · Breakfast and dinner
Day 8 · Departure from Istanbul
After breakfast you are transferred privately from your Istanbul hotel to the airport for your onward flight, at a time agreed in your written proposal.
No overnight — the journey finishes in Istanbul · Breakfast

Practical information
- Domestic air sectors
- Three regions in eight days needs two internal flights: Istanbul to Izmir on day 3, Izmir to Kayseri or Nevsehir on day 5, and Cappadocia to Istanbul on day 7. They are recommended logistics, not included in the tour price, and are quoted, ticketed and confirmed in writing separately.
- Ground and walking
- Expect a full day on foot in Istanbul, uneven ancient ground at Ephesus and Hierapolis, and narrow low passages in the underground settlement. Firm closed shoes are essential.
- Hotels
- Hotels are minimum four-star. The properties shown above are indicative examples, not guaranteed bookings. Your exact hotel and room type — or an equivalent or higher-standard alternative — are named for approval in your written proposal before confirmation.
- Site access
- Which underground settlement is open, whether the Terrace Houses shelter is open and the interior access to individual Istanbul monuments all depend on current official arrangements. Each is confirmed in writing rather than promised here.
- Pace and flexibility
- The order of stops within a day may change for weather, flight timing or an official closure. The route as a whole is not shortened without your agreement.

It can be requested as an optional extra, operated by a licensed balloon company and paid separately. Balloon flights depend entirely on weather and official clearance on the morning, so they are never guaranteed and are never built into the itinerary.

Minimum four-star throughout, with breakfast every morning and dinner on all seven hotel nights. The properties shown above are indicative; your written proposal names the exact hotels for your approval before anything is reserved.
No. The only cultural stop of that kind we offer anywhere is a carpet-weaving heritage visit, and it is on request only. The Avanos pottery workshops are visited as a craft tradition, not as a sales stop.
Is this the right journey for you?
This journey is a good fit if
- You want Istanbul, the Aegean sites and Cappadocia in one private week.
- You are content to fly between regions rather than spend days on the road.
- You want two full days in each of the three regions rather than a rushed circuit.
Consider another journey if
- You have four days and prefer to stay on the road: A four-day journey covers Troy, Pergamon, Ephesus and Pamukkale from Istanbul to Izmir with no internal flight. See the 4-day journey
- You want Gallipoli and Troy instead of Cappadocia: A five-day journey adds the Gallipoli peninsula and the Dardanelles to historic Istanbul and the Aegean sites. See the 5-day journey
