The disciplined Izmir day
When a call at Izmir is not long enough for four landmarks, the honest answer is to do fewer things well. This format spends its hours on the archaeological site itself, adds the Terrace Houses when you select them, and takes in the Temple of Artemis because it is on the road rather than because it fills a gap.
Everything else is subtracted deliberately. That is what makes six hours from Izmir realistic instead of aspirational.

One site, properly read
A highlights tour is often a euphemism for a hurried one. It does not have to be. The excavated street of Ephesus runs roughly a kilometre and a half downhill, and walking it once with a guide who knows what to point at gives a coherent picture of a Roman provincial capital.
What we avoid is the pretence that a sixth landmark improves the day. From Izmir, the arithmetic of the road makes restraint the more generous choice.

The small temple façade attributed to Hadrian carries some of the finest surviving carving on the street, reassembled from fragments found close by.
Terrace Houses, if you choose them
The sheltered residential slope is the single best addition to a highlights visit — mosaics, painted walls and courtyards under one roof.

Short program, protected return
The point of a six-hour Izmir format is that the return leg is never squeezed. The buffer is set from the confirmed all-aboard time before any stop is planned, and stops are traded against it, not the other way round. The Back-to-Ship Guarantee applies to the confirmed cruise itinerary and the arrangement made with us.
