What this journey is
This is the four-day Revelation circuit set inside a longer Istanbul frame. Two days at the start are spent in the city that became the capital of Christian Rome, and the last full day returns there, so the journey holds both the first-century communities of Roman Asia and the imperial church that followed them.
Between those ends the route crosses western Anatolia by road: Smyrna and Thyatira, Pergamon on its acropolis, then Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea, the travertine terraces and ruins of Hierapolis, and a full day at Ephesus and Selcuk. The two long transfers between Istanbul and Izmir are flown, and those sectors are ticketed separately from the land journey. Everything on the ground runs for your booking party alone, with a licensed guide throughout, minimum four-star hotels, and breakfast and dinner as listed.
Evidence, interpretation and tradition
Documented archaeology: the excavated fabric at Ephesus, Pergamon, Sardis, Laodicea and Smyrna is published and still under active excavation. Hagia Sophia and Hagia Irene in Istanbul are standing buildings of the Christian empire, securely dated centuries after the apostolic period.
Scholarly interpretation: matching each Revelation letter to its city, and reading local detail into its imagery, is argued from evidence and debated in detail. Where a reading is contested, your guide says so rather than presenting one view as settled.
Religious and local tradition: the House of the Virgin Mary near Ephesus is a place of modern Catholic and Orthodox devotion whose identification rests on tradition, not on documented evidence of residence. No first-century church building survives at any of the seven cities; the churches were communities of people.

Day 1 · Arrival in Istanbul
You are met on arrival and transferred privately to your Istanbul hotel. A short orientation with your guide sets out the days ahead and confirms the following morning's start time; the remainder of the day is free.

Day 2 · Historic Istanbul
A full private day in the historic peninsula: the Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, each subject to current official access, opening hours and any prayer-time restriction on the day.
The city is read as one continuous place — Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman layers in the same streets — rather than as separate attractions.

Day 3 · Istanbul to Izmir
The morning covers Rustem Pasha Mosque and its tile programme and the Spice Bazaar, with a Bosphorus experience as operations and weather permit.
You are then transferred for the domestic Istanbul–Izmir sector. That flight is not included in the journey: it is ticketed separately and confirmed in your written proposal so the air schedule matches the ground plan. Your guide and vehicle continue with you in Izmir.

Day 4 · Smyrna, Thyatira and Pergamon
The Smyrna Agora in central Izmir is Roman civic fabric — basilica basement, arcades and open square — rather than any surviving church of the community addressed in Revelation.
Thyatira in modern Akhisar is a fragmentary excavated plot inside a working town, with no identifiable first-century church building. Pergamon then fills the rest of the day, with the acropolis terraces and the Red Hall below.

Day 5 · Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea and Pamukkale
Sardis in the morning: the gymnasium-bath complex, the synagogue and the Artemis precinct, with later Christian evidence distinguished from the Lydian and Roman phases.
Philadelphia at Alasehir keeps the piers of a later Byzantine basilica. Laodicea's Roman city and its later Christian architecture follow, before the road climbs to Pamukkale and Hierapolis.

Day 6 · Ephesus and Selcuk
A full day at Ephesus and around Selcuk: the excavated city, the Basilica of St John as a Byzantine monument over the traditional burial place, and the surviving platform of the Temple of Artemis.
The House of the Virgin Mary is included as a place of modern Catholic and Orthodox devotion whose identification rests on tradition rather than on documented evidence of residence.

Day 7 · Return to Istanbul
You are transferred to Izmir Airport for the return domestic sector to Istanbul. That flight is not included and is ticketed separately, as confirmed in your proposal.
The remainder of the day in Istanbul is free time, with your private transfer to the hotel arranged on arrival.
The Izmir–Istanbul air sector is separately ticketed and never included.

- Ground and walking
- Ancient sites are uneven: marble, gravel, unmade paths and steps without handrails. Expect moderate walking on the site days and firm closed shoes throughout.
- Domestic air sectors
- Two domestic sectors are required, Istanbul to Izmir on day 3 and Izmir to Istanbul on day 7. Neither is included. Both are ticketed separately and confirmed in your written proposal so the air schedule matches the ground plan.
- Site opening hours
- Each site and museum keeps its own official seasonal hours, published by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism rather than by us. The day order is checked against the current hours in your proposal.
- Hotels
- Hotels are minimum four-star. The properties shown above are indicative examples, not guaranteed bookings. Your exact hotel and room type — or an equivalent or higher-standard alternative — are named for approval in your written proposal before confirmation.
- Faith and conduct
- The journey is open to travellers of any faith or none. Where a site is in active religious use, modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required and quiet conduct is expected.

Istanbul carries the long afterlife of the faith that began in the seven cities, and it is the practical arrival point for most international travellers. Two days at the start and one on the return give the city real time rather than a rushed stopover.

No, and no journey can. The seven churches of Revelation were communities of people in seven cities, not seven buildings. What survives is the cities themselves, and at several sites Byzantine church remains raised long after the letters were written.
Yes. Every departure runs for your booking party alone, with a maximum of 14 guests. You are never joined to another group and there is no seat-in-coach option.
Breakfast is included each morning at your hotel, and dinner is included on the seven hotel nights. Lunch is optional and excluded by default; your guide can stop at a local restaurant en route on any day.

It is a place of modern Catholic and Orthodox devotion, and it is visited as such. The identification of the building with the Virgin Mary rests on nineteenth-century tradition, not on documented evidence of residence, and your guide will say so plainly.
No. The only cultural stop of that kind we offer anywhere is a carpet-weaving heritage visit, and it is on request only. It is never preselected, never added to fill time, and no other shopping stop exists on this route.
